The nationally recognised CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care is designed to prepare you for a successful career in Childhood education. You will learn how to develop the knowledge and skills to work across a range of early childhood settings, lead a team to success, and ignite children’s imaginations.

Entry Requirements for diploma in Early childcare

  • Entry to this qualification is open to individuals who:
    – hold a CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care or
    – CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.
  • As part of the application, students must complete a Pre-training Review (PTR) and undertake a literacy and numeracy (LN) assessment to determine suitability for admission and identify support needs.
  • Applicants must demonstrate they can work with children and families in the highly demanding field of early childhood as set out by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) and the Education and Care Services National Regulations by participating in an interview.
  • For employment and practical placement purposes, this vocational sector typically requires: a current and satisfactory Police Record Check; http://www.police.vic.gov.au/content.asp?Document_ID=274

Health and safety of children in child care services

You will take a deep dive into ensuring the health and safety of children is provided at all times. This includes promoting and providing healthy food and drinks for children within your care.

Providing care and building relationships

This topic is all about building relationships while you are providing care for the children. You will learn about positive psychology and how it is used to develop respectful relationships with children. You will also be provided with the practical skills and knowledge to be able to provide the highest level of care to babies and toddlers. To assist you with this topic, you will learn how to use an approved learning framework to guide practice for your newly developed skills.

Learning, development and relationships

This topic is about creating a child centric learning and development curriculum that fosters all elements of a child’s learning. This includes working in partnership with families to provide appropriate education and care for children and then analysing that information to inform learning. This topic also covers off how to promote children’s agency and embedding sustainable practices in service operations.

Legalities, ethics and risk in children’s services

This topic covers vital information on how to work legally and ethically within an early childcare environment. In addition to covering off the legalities you will also learn how to identify and respond to young people at risk.

Inclusion, diversity and behaviours

Throughout this topic you will learn to work with diverse groups of people and children be able to develop and implement strategies for the inclusion of all children. This includes establishing plans for developing cooperative behaviour

Health, safety and wellbeing

In this topic you will learn how to establish and maintain a safe and healthy environment for children. You will also be able to foster the holistic development and wellbeing of children in early childhood while nurturing and developing their creativity.

Policies, procedures and compliance

This topic covers off policies, procedures and the compliance side of early childhood care and education. You will learn how to facilitate, identify and interpret compliance requirements as well as implementing processes for the management of a breach in compliance. You will also be able to develop workplace policy and procedures for sustainability.

Cultural inclusion

Cultural inclusion and diversity skills are critical when working in an early childcare environment. This topic will enable you to develop cultural competence and gain the necessary skills to promote and work with indigenous people.

Leading teams

Leading teams is an essential part of your role as a supervisor. Throughout this topic you will learn the techniques and strategies to lead teams through the stages of team development as well as communication skills to be able to work effectively within your team.
